Now, I realize that this is an important tool for getting announcements out to forum users. I appreciate having the news right up top as soon as I log in!

However, it's come to my attention that it is HUGE (larger than my Firefox window can display). And also, an announcement or two on it seems out of date (namely the new features list, which says silos and wells are coming soon!). Now, of course as a forum user I can click the Xs on the right once I've read each announcement, and they're gone. But if you're not logged in, that whole giant box is at the top of every single page on the forums, and it doesn't go away. I was quite a lurker here, reading threads to get my questions answered, and I only joined so that I could donate to the new crop, and that big red/pink box was so annoying! I expect there are a lot of "non-users" using the forums, and that they are surprised by the out of date info stuck to the top of the page. Perhaps it could be trimmed down a little, for their sake? I also visit from different computers, for a quick answer to a question or news update, and won't be logging in unless I feel an urgent need to post. It just seems a little unnecessary unless it has news and announcements that are actually new.

Some of them actually shouldn't be showing for those not logged in and others only for specific usergroups. I'm not sure why the rules seem to have gone haywire, looking into it now
