View Full Version : Honest question about the chicken coop "protection" mode

On the chicken coop, it says it's used for protection. Did Michael mean protection as in general protection, or is he adding foxes or something?
The reason I ask is that several (more than that I'm sure!) of us have chickens IN the coop as well as wandering free on our farms. At first I was hesitant to do so because I believed that if they weren't IN the coop we were likely to lose them, as I didn't know what "protection" referred to. I still don't know what it refers to, unfortunately. I'm guessing it's safe to allow them to continue to let them roam free.
Any clue what he was referring to? I separated mine into 3 coops today just to have something to blow my accumulating $$ on, and to make egg gathering easier when it comes in since I'm not sure if we'll be clicking on those lil chickens or on the coop itself (which would be FAR easier, obviously).
Anyway, back to the purpose of the "protection"....

We haven't been informed of the plan yet. No one knows. I'm sure it will be announced when the time comes!:cute:

Could be protection from over-enthusiastic farmers stepping on them as they romp around the pastures planting stuff. :cute:

I think eggs are coming eventually...I assume they'll be kept inside the coop...
Have to wait and see!

Eh, gotta understand where I'm coming from I guess! After talking to a few other farmers here, I know others have played other games both here on FB and on other online platforms. I'm worried that one day I'll log on and my chickens that I allow to roam free for asthetic purposes will have been gobbled up lol. My son keeps putting them back in the coop because it states "protection" use and I keep taking a few out!

In my case it would probably be from protection from my horses hooves. lol I have the chickens that won't fit in the chicken coop wandering around outside the coop and around the horses. lol I sure hope there isn't going to be some chicken hawk or coyote that attacks chickens that are not in the chicken coops. :( I don't even have room for a second chicken coop.
I haven't heard anything about Coyotes or Wolves or anything of the like, and I've read the majority of the stuffs.
I think perhaps he might have just put Protection since at the moment the Coop does absolutely nothing but look nice.
If Wolves or Coyotes are being added, it won't be for a long while.

I'm guessing, but I think either...
1. the protection referred to might be something like, you will be able to gather the eggs laid by the chickens if they are protected by the coop. if you don't have a coop, th eggs won't be protected, and therefore you can't get eggs?
or
2. when chickens start laying, you will be able to get eggs from those in the coop and those outside, but the ones in the coop last longer, or are worth more? not sure about that...
either way, i don't think the feature of protection is activated yet anyway.
I'm starting to hate this glitch of people's pictures getting screwed with and moved around. >.> I see my profile picture, not my avatar, next to Patty's name.

Yes I stated on same point Patti B.. I noticed that straight off and on graphic page a wolf/coyote like dog howling. As on any farm you do run risk of predatory animals and other disasters. But with those farmers have ways of protecting farms. Fences??
Some animals can dig under certain fences. Some leap over like deer. Why some farms have Deer fencing, a higher plastic mesh fence. Crows/mice...other animals. why see picture of dog on graphic page too. :) ... Give the Game some time to develop !

Hi PattiB, you need to go into User CP, edit atavar, chose custom avatar, and then at the bottom of the page set a link to an actual picture (preferably on your own pc I think), so that your avatar link stops grabbing a pcitre from someone elses profile pic. That should sort it.

I don't think that you will have to worry about losing all of your chickens in one day. When the time comes that the 'protection' is needed, I'm sure we will be given a fair amount of time and warning to make sure they are in the coop if need be. Keep your eyes out for the news/update section and we will know then when it will take effect.

But some of these chickens are very wayward. I have one that April gave me that wanders all over the place, nowhere near any of the others...

I don't think that they will need to be "in" the coop, as there are more chickens than the coop could possibly hold. This is just my opinion, but the way I see it is, if you have the "chicken coop" that extends the "protection" to your chickens.
We all will just have to wait and see what Michael has in store for us and what the actual "protection" will extend to, and from what!
No one knows for sure, so everyone is just speculating. Sorry!
Happy Farming!
Is there any truth to the rumor this coop is managed by some rooster out of New Jersey? All of this talk about protection and such sounds like some sort of my Farm mafia!

That's actually created by hordes of gnomes digging tunnels to steal your eggs - Boy! won't they be surprised when they only find Roosters!!!!

Uh-uh! You need roosters to get chicks, but not eggs. The eggs we get in the store are all unfertilized.

Oh, and by the way- my horkins and gourkeys were out behind the barn the other day and I heard some really strange noises. I'm afraid of what I'm going to see roaming the farmyard in a month or so...

Umm.. what was the topic about anyway?? When are we getting horkins and gurkeys? The animals on my farm do not behave nor comply with me.

Who even knows... I think it WAS about getting the horkins and gourkeys, though.
Although players must understand- these are rare breeds and only farmers who have been around for a while and know the ropes will be able to successfully breed them. Inexperienced farmers who try to cross-breed will only end up angering the gnomes and we all know what happens, then

Amy.. do you think that quite possibly a goat and a firefly were breed together to create the blinking goats? I'm curious to find out who was in the lab working on this one.

If anyone knows yet, will just one chicken coop be enough for whatever "protection" it affords? Or will we need enough coops to safely house all our chickens? I'm just curious.

I THINK I originally asked what or when the "protection" mode was going in to effect because I had chickens wandering around my farm for looks. That seems like ages ago. :beatdeadhorse:

Thanks Scarlet. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
I'm not sure about the coops enabling egg production...not unless they come with roosters, haha! Like everyone else has been saying, unless the MyFarm chickens have been genetically altered to self-reproduce they'll need partners eventually.
