I do not like the idea of a special place for the elite few.
I know it is not activated yet, but I would rather it not show up at all.

Its not a definite feature, it may not come about. If it does though its there simply to help users on a more indepth one on one basis for those who pay for such support. Its not realistic after all for us to offer such a level of support to 2million customers who are getting the game for free. Support will still be offered to everyone else as it is now its if it is added.
Its a difficult situation though as many of you are very demanding from a Support pov, you want us to offer a level of support that you would expect from a service that you are paying for and this is a possible way of allowing us to please these people while being able to make it finacially viable

I was going to suggest the same thing. Here's what is says now:
V.I.F - Very Important Farmers
A Forum for the elite (Well those who bribed us to be let in)
It should be changed to
Paid support forum
For those who paid real money to get extra attention.
Although I can not understand what kind of special attention and support someone would get if they paid money. The game practically plays itself.
Medigal
26.12.2008, 11:39 PM
wel i think it might be a good idea for one to one support; however, there are not that many admins and it would be a little unfair if all the admins are spending their time giving one to one support and not mixing in the community. Us farmers like to see the admins around and having fun ....given the ration of admins to farmers I feel it might take all their time giving support.
Medigal

thats ratio not ration lol

From Clause 7 in the forum Rules:
"Examples beyond the obvious include elitist behavior"
This is where I get hung up. No elitist behavior allowed, and yet there is possibly going to be a whole section labled for elite only? I think a re-naming would be a grand idea for that section.

I AGREE. It should be for those who put out some dough and not only for those who have witty comments regarding gnomes and stuff like that. I mean, I know it is fun and such but it leaves the rest of us in the dust if we don't "make the grade".... Make a yahoo group for that...

I'm glad someone brought it up too - I don't like the name. If folks want to pay $ for support, that's nice to offer it. But to call any group of farmers more important than any others (ok except you mods and administrators who are actually working here) doesn't really add anything to the community. It's just a thought.

This is kind of in the same category - why are some of the social groups
"invite only"? Shouldn't they all be open for anyone who wants to join?
Not that I want to tip cows or live in medieval make believe land....
I just thought that was strange...aren't forums to socialize and interact?

Clause 7 :
"Examples beyond the obvious include elitist behavior...."
The VIF should be removed - call it Paying Farmers or something?....
So why aren't the people starting "invite only" social groups not being given
"infractions" on this basis? Why is that option even available to use? Funny, couldn't find anything in the rules about social groups. I would think they should adhere to the sames rules as the rest of the forum!
Do they think we can't read what's in there forums?
They are complaining about us - calling us whiners etc.. - well, since we can't post in there - it's not that we want to join your groups - it's the principal of excluding people! This is supposed to be a place for interaction and fun - not pettiness and snobbery.

You would have noticed the forum description was tongue in cheek, hence why it said "A Forum for the elite (Well those who bribed us to be let in)". The forum name of V.I.F comes from the fact often when a premium support is offered they are referred to as having V.I.P membership and we play a Farm game. Again it was tongue in cheek.

Could you please answer the question of "invite only" social groups and why that is tolerated?....Thought I would re-ask since you didn't address that in your reply.
Thanks!
i am also interested to know about the invite only groups, not that i think there abad idea... could prevent some of the complaining about inapropriateness from the old forums. do all the rules apply to invite only community groups?? eg because it is a priviate group can they abide by there own 'rating rules' ??

Its the holidays and time is limited so give me a chance please, especially when you are basically requesting me to go through all the groups and reread the posts in the social groups. I know it may seem like i'm Superman at times with the amount of work I do here but trust me I'm not :)
Anyway the groups themselves are no problem. People often seem to be getting confused by what is meant by elitist behaviour. Being part of a 'private' group be it a private forum or a social group is not elitist behaviour. In the case of the Social groups they are simply just places for people who have similar views to have some banter, share photos ect ect in a place where in a more appropriate place. You will get away with a little more in the social group as it is about banter but anything that goes too far is deleted

I see very little difference between an elite group and a clique. Both are a small group of people who get preferencial treatment because of status or wealth. No doubt you were doing it tongue in cheek, but never the less, I, along with many others do not like it and think it should be removed or renamed.
I certainly don't have a problem with you charging for your services, but your choice of names for the board was bad.

How does the name matter, I can understand you having an issue with a 2 tier system (although I wouldn't agree with the view as long as the 'higher tier' wasn't something being granted on an arbitrary basis) but to complain about potential names, all of which would have to include some kind of word that implied they were 'special' from a support pov as thats what a paid service would be offering. You cant get away from the fact that if implemented it would be a VIP service and it seems a bit petty.
With this, then social groups I'm expecting complaints next about the private forums the certain groups (ie mods, admin, developers ect ect) have access to
Soylent
28.12.2008, 01:55 AM
I really don't see the issue with VIP status. The makers of the game have every right to get paid for this game, and even make a profit. If people are willing to pay for more service then why not give it to them? Its no different than upgrading to platinum service with Triple A so you get better phone support and quicker service, or paying more to sit closer to the field at a ball game. I would have more of a problem with sections of the board that you have to get access to just because someone arbitrarily feels like giving you access. Given the over all cheapness of the rest of the game, I doubt VIP is going to come with a huge price tag either. Also, April, Simon and the rest of the mods seem fairly dedicated to these boards, so I dont see them neglecting other players. VIP will probably get priority, or maybe just mods assigned specifically to that section so as not to take away from everyone else's experience.
And look at it this way, if there IS a VIP section, chances are those people who want to pay extra are paying for those who can't/won't pay for it to have faster, quicker, more efficient updates, support, and additions to the game.

Who cares? Does it matter if there is a group VIF? I mean, what even makes up VIF? A bribe? Do I make a million dollars or two million dollars in a day? There are plenty of ways to judge VIF. Lets have fun playing not worrying about some "elite" group. I would likwe to join a group that would support each other such as sending gifts and giving tips.

Is this a discussion board where we are allowed to voice our opinions. I voiced mine. To have a part of a board that no one can enter except paid members is fine. It is not fine to call this select group VERY IMPORTANT FARMERS, as if the rest of us farmers are not important.
Super Moo
28.12.2008, 01:43 PM
You know you are important so why would you care if other people call you that. I for one do not need reassurance about how important I am. So let them call it what they want! If people are willing to pay for the game and help Michael along the way they deserve to get vip treatment:rolleyes:

i'm not even sure about who's post to quote from. I agree with bits and pieces of each. I can't see anyone saying that michael, admin, the mods should not somehow start getting money for this game they create, provide, and manage. And if you don't think they should, then you should stop playing. I think that people who pay for the service should be allowed some kind of 'special' priority. Now if people who paid for the service received new buildings, features, or new options before others who don't pay, I would disagree with that. As for the name....?? Don't worry about it. I'm sure that it would have been changed to something else before it was up and running.
It seems petty to be arguing about something like a name.

Honestly, this is like beating a dead horse anymore....(pun totally intended!)
It's like this: You have a subscription to a magazine that you're paying for, and your neighbor suddenly notices you're getting this cool magazine, and throws a fit. Then they write the company of the magazine demanding to be signed up and receive issues as well for free just because noticed that you got a perk (a magazine every month) and they didn't.
It's gone. It's..been gone for awhile. Therefore, I'm gonna close this thread. If it doesn't exist, there's no point in arguing it further.
